LUXEMBOURG

LUXEMBOURG

Luxembourg is the southernmost and largest province of Belgium with a surface area of 4440 km². The region is rich in rivers such as Semois, Lesse, Ourthe, Lhomme and Sûre. The sites we visited for our field trips were spread across the province.

Near Bastogne, we found a partially abandoned stone quarry. One pit had filled up with water, whilst the second was still being excavated, giving an interesting contrasting landscape. Overall, we found a rich diversity of raw materials from Luxembourg, including puddingstone, dolomite, sandstones and slates. .
