DANSZEIL

Ruben De Vogelaere, Kaat Polley, Miguel Van den Eynde

Our project is focusing more on the reuse of local materials by using the excessive and unnecessary mass of the current oven to extend it in a horizontal way. Like this, there will be more space for the baking process. The oven itself needs to be bigger to fit at least four pizzas. The way we want to generate this is simply by extending the foundation of the oven. Extending the oven with one cement stone of approximately 20 centimeters, will result in an oven with an inner diameter of 160 cm. This taking into account that we also don’t need as much insulation as the original oven. This is a quite simple design for the oven because our main focus goes to the shading sail. We call it “ the dancing sail “. This has to light up the space and attract the people towards the oven from far away. Also here we thrive to reuse local materials by giving thrown-away or broken tents a second life. This can be seen as a critical action towards the many party people that leave behind their tents at the end of the festival. We hope to open their eyes and make them think about the waste that comes with festivals and meanwhile they enjoy the colorful, bright atmosphere that appears when the sun hits the canvas. For creating the sail we would need around 20+ tents where we can cut out pieces of 150cm by 100cm. We developed a simple stitching technique to attach the sail to cables that are anchored into the existing walls.
