Het Bloemenpaviljoen
Throughout history, fire has had a central place in everyday life. People came together to exchange knowledge, cook and tell stories. The necessity of fire thus ensured that life took place around it.
The tradition of baking bread, an important element for us, goes hand in hand with this. It is an event that is considered a ritual in many cultures. The fire becomes the place where this skill is passed on, and it grows in importance as a result.
In this way, we see the brick oven as a connector for the neighbourhood, bringing together various cultures and population groups. The oven becomes an element that everyone can relate to. It creates conviviality, encourages people to eat and bake as a group and thus brings about a sense of community.
Our intervention will become of value to the inhabitants of Vilvoorde. By thinking in the long term, it will transcend its identity, which it will acquire during the Horst Festival. We include the oven in a circular structure that creates a connection between the people and the oven, without literally putting it in the centre. The act of baking takes part in the act of eating and meeting. A chimney to guide the smoke from the oven upwards, but also to let the neighbourhood know, we are going to bake; be welcome and join us.
