In our design we want to communicate the secrecy and sacredness of the rituals of antiquity, not by hiding our structure, but by emphasizing on the feeling of togetherness and the way it can be promoted through the ritual of making pizza. Our oven stands for what was in ancient times the sacred hearth, only this time instead of the sacred salted cake mola salsa people offer their pizza to ‘propitiate’ nothing but their hunger.
We decided to generate the design from an axis heading to one of the entrances of the festival area, giving a touch of monumentality to the structure and particularly to the essential element of it; the oven. At the same time, we keep vacant the space just in front of the existing open-space steps for screenings and other activities.
A sail made from old tents protects the preparation and baking area. By connecting two reused poles, the sail can be hanged up, giving unity to the area. Our construction is simply constructed with tension and compression to limit the number of wooden poles and thus their cost.
This way, people gather under the tent sail and the ritual of making pizza grows under the colorful roof.
