FLEMISH BRABANT

In Flemish-Brabant there is an exceptional array of materials among which dry and wet loam soils. Multiple sand and loam quarries are scattered around the province. One of these quarries is Godts in Bierbeek, it is the biggest sand quarry of the province. In Halle we found a small loam quarry, owned by ODM, where a silty loam is excavated, that is mainly exported to West-Flanders to produce baked bricks. Apart from this, the province is known for its iron sandstone located in Hageland. It was excavated on the Wijngaardberg in Rotselaar, which is now a deserted quarry and has a new purpose as a well-known hiking site.
